The Royal and Dreams La Romana Become Hilton Properties

After an earlier announcement that Hilton and Playa Hotels & Resorts had entered into a strategic alliance, changes are already afoot.

The Royal in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and the Dreams La Romana in the Dominican Republic are being rebranded as Hilton properties, making good on Hilton’s promise that the company would add to its all-inclusive Latin America and Caribbean portfolio in 2018.

The Royal is now the Hilton Playa del Carmen. The all-inclusive property remains adults-only but will undergo a soft goods renovation, bringing in a new, modern and refreshed design with high-end finishes.

Renovations will begin on February 1, 2019, and are scheduled to be complete by December of 2019. The property will remain open during this refurbishments.

The first phase will include the renovation of 44 rooms in the quiet area, which is scheduled to be completed by April 30, 2019. Starting on May 1, the second phase will involve 144 rooms in the northern building scheduled to be completed by July 15, 2019.

The third phase is scheduled to start on July 16. This part of the renovation will involve 180 rooms in the southern building scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2019. The last of the upgrades will take place in the central building where 145 rooms will be redone and scheduled for completion by December 1.

Hilton La Romana

On November 20, 2018, the Dreams La Romana will become the Hilton La Romana. Like the Hilton Playa del Carmen, the property will also undergo a renovation, scheduled to begin on January 20, 2019.

The first phase of renovations impacts the adult-only section of the resort which will be closed and scheduled to reopen on May 1, 2019.

The family section of the resort will be closed for the second phase of renovations, starting May 1, 2019, to December 1, 2019.

When the renovations are complete, the resort will feature an age-restricted section as well as a family section designed for all ages.

For travelers who are booked at the hotel between November 20, 2018, through January 19, 2019, there will be no impact to their stay. However, guests staying in the adults-only section of the resort while that section is close will be accommodated in the all-ages section or have the option to relocate to a Playa Hotels & Resorts adult-only resort/section. Alternative resorts include Dreams Punta Cana, Dreams Palm Beach, Jewel Paradise Cove Beach Resort & Spa, Jewel Dunn’s River Beach Resort.

Families affected by the renovations will be accommodated at a Playa Hotels & Resorts family friendly resort. Alternatives include Dreams Punta Cana, Dreams Palm Beach, Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort, Panama Jack Resorts Cancun, Panama Jack Resorts Playa del Carmen.

For adults booked in the family sections from May 1, 2019, to December 1, 2019, will be accommodated in the adult only section or have the option to relocate to a Playa Hotels & Resorts adult-only resort/section.
