As you travel across the United States, you are met with a lot of history. There are sites from significant eras including the first colonies, the founding of the country, and much more. For your trip to all the historical sites, you need to make sure you include these locations.

Washington, D.C.

If you want to explore the history of the country, you need to make sure you visit the capitol. Washington D.C. is home to dozens of museums that cater to fans of history. You can visit the American History Museum for a general overview of American history and pop culture. It’s also worth visiting the Holocaust Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian, and more. In addition to museums, there are also several significant sites. These include Ford’s Theater, the Capitol Building, and the Library of Congress. While you visit D.C., you should consider exploring sites in the surrounding area including George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is full of early American colonial historical sites. It played a significant role in the Revolutionary War and many of the sites in Boston reflect that. In this city, you can walk along the Freedom Trail. This 2.5 mile walk will lead you past 16 significant locations of historical significance. You’ll pass by museums, churches, burial grounds, and more as you explore this trail. Some significant spots include the monument at Bunker Hill, the church where Paul Revere began his famous ride, and the Boston Tea Party ships and museum. As you tour this city, you can learn more about the history surrounding the founding of this nation.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

While Boston may have been a major player during the Revolutionary War, Philadelphia is where this country first came to be. In Philadelphia, you can visit Independence Hall where both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed. Nearby, you can also visit the Liberty Bell which is a symbol for freedom. In addition to these extremely important sites, you can also explore historic homes, churches, government buildings, cemeteries, and more as you tour around Philadelphia.

America is full of a lot of history, so you’re bound to find exciting historical sites anywhere you go. However, the sites in these cities are a must see for any history buffs. As you plan your trip, make sure to include them on your itinerary.
