Factors That Can Make or Break a Destination Wedding

You know you want your wedding to be magical. You know what type of setting you want, and you know you want a destination wedding.

Destination weddings can be great, but they require a bit more planning and preparation to pull off than more local events. With that in mind, certain factors can make or break your destination wedding.

Visa Requirements

Depending on where you intend your destination wedding to take place, you may need to be aware of and abide by visa requirements. Not all countries require U.S. citizens to have a visa to travel, but countries like Russia, China, India, Australia, Brazil, Thailand, and many African countries do.

Make sure you understand and follow visa requirements if there are any for where you plan to have your destination wedding. Without a visa, you won’t make it to the wedding. Give yourself plenty of time to learn the requirements for the country you’re going to and make arrangements to abide by them.

Your Budget

Your budget will drastically impact your wedding no matter where you hold it. It’s especially important for a destination wedding though. Make sure you know how you’re paying.

If you need to exchange U.S. dollars for local currency, get familiar with the exchange rate so you can budget accordingly. Carefully allot money from your budget to specific elements of your destination wedding. If you choose an expensive venue that’s less money you have to spend on food and entertainment.

Weather at an Outdoor Wedding

Many destination weddings are held outside. While that allows for breathtaking photos and amazing views, the weather can be unpredictable at times. That can make planning an outdoor destination wedding extra difficult. No one wants to be rained out of their wedding by an unexpected storm. Learn about typical weather patterns in the area you’ll be during the time you’ll be there. Make backup plans for your wedding so you can still have an amazing wedding, even if the weather isn’t cooperative.

Pulling off a perfect destination wedding requires a lot of work. It’s not enough to put together a rough plan and hope everything works out. Pay attention to the finer details, especially when it comes to things like travel requirements, money, weather, and your venue. If you find that too overwhelming to handle yourself, find a wedding planner that specializes in destination weddings. They’ll have the knowledge and experience to help you put together an amazing destination wedding.
