How to Be Smart About Insects When in the Outdoors

Nature is a beautiful thing that can help you to feel more connected with yourself and at peace with the world. But when you are outside, there are certain dangers that you need to be aware of, if you want to keep yourself safe.

Bugs can range from simply annoying to potentially dangerous, but either way, you should protect yourself when you are out in nature, so you can have a better time.

Bring Bug Spray

One of the most essential tools you have available to you to keep bugs away is bug spray. There are many varieties that use different combinations of chemicals to disincentivize bugs from coming near you. You should read the labels on your bug spray, so you know how to use it properly and avoid any side effects.

Additionally, different kinds of bug sprays are formulated to work best on specific kinds of insects. You want to know what kinds of bugs are in the area, so you can choose the right bug spray for your needs.

Cover Your Skin

You can also prevent bug bites by ensuring that the bulk of your skin is covered when you are outside. Long sleeves and pants can help you to be more comfortable outdoors by preventing bugs from having easy access to biting you.

Preventing bug bites is a good idea not only because they can be itchy or painful, but also because they can potentially lead to disease. For example, ticks carry Lyme disease in many parts of the U.S. Avoiding bug bites and bugs on your skin can help you to stay healthy.

Use Essential Oils

If you want to keep bugs away from you in a natural way when you are out and about, you can use essential oils to create a barrier. Many different essential oils, like eucalyptus and lavender, are naturally repellant to many varieties of insects. Using essential oils on your skin or clothing when you are in nature can help you to naturally keep bugs off of your skin. As stated before, many bugs carry diseases or may bite you and leave you with discomfort, and it is best to avoid this when possible. You can dilute essential oils and use them as a spray that you can apply to your clothing and skin without causing any irritation or excessive smell.

When you are outside, it is important to make sure that you are still taking care of yourself along the way. Keeping bugs at bay will help you to minimize the discomfort you feel outside, and keep yourself safe. Getting rid of bugs and preventing bug bites doesn’t have to be complicated, you just have to make it a priority.
