In celebration of the resumption of Viking’s European river itineraries, this week’s Viking.TV sessions will focus on the iconic rivers featured in Viking’s Welcome Back voyages.
On Maritime Mondays (August 2), join Viking’s crew and executive team to learn how they are re-starting river cruising after this long break, including training new captains and tailoring shore excursions.
Additional sessions feature interviews with artists who have sought inspiration from Europe’s rivers in their works. During In Conversation With Tuesdays (August 3), author Ben Coates discusses his books about the Rhine and Dutch culture. Then on Guest Speaker Thursdays (August 5), enjoy the melodies of music as British composer and Godmother of Viking Herja, Debbie Wiseman, discusses how Viking’s river cruises influenced her scores and podcast narrations for Viking.
Karine Hagen, Executive Vice President at Viking, will also host two special sessions this week, including a look back at Viking’s 24 years of river cruising during Wanderlust Wednesdays (August 4), and a special tour of the staterooms and suites during Friday’s (August 6) At Home On Board The Viking Longships.

Monday, August 2 – Maritime Mondays – Commemorate the return of Viking’s river cruise operations in this special session with the crew and executive team. Learn about how Viking is re-starting cruising after this long break, including training new captains and tailoring shore excursions. The session will be followed by a live Q&A hosted by Sascha Gill, Vice President of Nautical Operations, who will be joined by several other members of Viking’s operations team.
Tuesday, August 3 – In Conversation With Tuesdays – Join Alastair for a conversation with Ben Coates, author of The Rhine, and Why The Dutch Are Different. They will discuss Ben’s travels along the legendary Rhine river and his observations as a Brit living in the Netherlands.
Wednesday, August 4 – Wanderlust Wednesdays – Join Karine as she looks back on Viking’s 24 years of river cruising. Learn how the company began, with two mobile phones and four ships in Russia, explore some of Viking’s biggest milestones throughout its history, and look ahead to what guests can expect from the newly restarted cruises.
Thursday, August 5 – Guest Speaker Thursdays – This week, Anne Diamond will interview Classic FM’s Composer-in-Residence and Godmother of Viking Herja, Debbie Wiseman, MBE. One of the most popular living British composers, Debbie has multiple chart-topping albums, her newest being The Music of Kings and Queens. In addition to discussing her work, the conversation will explore how Viking’s river cruises inspired her to write Viking’s signature score, The Traveler, and the narration for the musically-inspired series, Viking Voyages Podcast.
Friday, August 6 – At Home On Board The Viking Longships – Reunite with Karine onboard one of Viking’s revolutionary river ships for a special tour of the staterooms and suites.
