How to Choose Your Method of Transportation in Oakland

Getting around Oakland is a challenge. The bay area is a hilly and compact metropolis that makes getting around a complex thing. Dealing with the headache of choosing a method of transportation in Oakland can be a struggle, even for the most experienced of Oaklanders. So don’t get stressed when you arrive with no transportation plans! Here are three great transportation options to help you navigate the city of Oakland.

Use Public Transportation

Oakland offers some pretty great public transit options for you to navigate the city. Oakland is home to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit District), which is a major rail transportation system that encompasses Oakland. With over 121 miles of track in Oakland and the greater bay area, you can use BART to get around with ease. There is also a wide network of busses that can help you navigate the city. As far as west coast cities go, Oakland has a pretty great public transit system.

Rent a Car

Oakland is a city that can be easily navigated by cars as well. If you are someone who likes the freedom and individuality that comes with driving a car yourself, there are plenty of rental options in Oakland that can get you a car to drive around the city wherever you like. Keep in mind, though, that this option is best if you are 25 years old or older. You can still rent a car if you’re under 25, but you’ll need to pay additional fees. This can make the cost unreasonable for younger drivers, so make sure you do your research and find out what the cost will be if you are under 25.

Scooters

Oakland and the bay area at large have many rentable electric scooters. And now that scooters have been around for a few years, it is perfectly acceptable for people of any age to ride an electric scooter across town to meetings, work, hangouts, and anything else you can imagine. They are also incredibly easy to use, as you simply download the app on your smartphone for the scooter brand you want to use and away you go. They’re not the best if you want to cover a lot of ground outside of Oakland, but perfect if you’re trying to explore the city itself on your vacation. Just be sure to stay safe and follow all local laws.

Getting around Oakland while traveling doesn’t have to be a struggle. Oakland is a very navigable city with lots of transit options for anyone on the go. Check out any of these three options and you’ll be zooming around the city in no time.
