How to Have a Better Food Experience When Traveling

Traveling is great for seeing new parts of the world and getting away from home for a little bit. Taking a trip is best when it is an experience that appeals to all five senses. One of the best ways to more fully enjoy your trip is to try fun, tasty, iconic foods and dishes.

Get Local Recommendations

You might be stumped on what to eat when you get to a new place since you aren’t familiar with what’s good there. While you have not tried anything there yet and certainly don’t have time to test it all, locals know the food better than anyone else. All you have to do is ask; they have lived and eaten in that place far longer than you have and would probably love to share some recommendations! Start by asking for recommendations from any friends or acquaintances you know in the area. If you don’t know any locals, you can use social media location tags like the ones on Instagram to find popular eating spots and photos of the actual food.

Avoid Fast Food

While eating at fast food chains may be very convenient especially if you are rushing between business meetings or sightseeing spots, the food at these chains will probably not be very satisfying. Since you are in a new place, you should take advantage of this and try foods and restaurants that place is known for instead of the same fast food menu you could get back at home. With some speedy internet searches, you can find a local pizzeria that provides fresh, tasty slices as quick as a fast food chain. Besides, local pizza is usually healthier than pizza at fast food chains. Choosing healthier foods while traveling will help you have more energy, which will help you make the most of your trip.

Eat What’s in Season

Some of the best dishes in any place will be made of foods that are in season or native to that area since those have the freshest taste. Additionally, these foods are much more abundant and accessible for chefs, so dishes with these foods will probably be less expensive. If you aren’t sure what’s in season or native, research before going or ask your waiter or chef.

Eating while traveling should be an exciting adventure instead of a chore. Food is a huge part of culture. Immerse yourself in the flavors of your trip by doing your research and eating top-notch dishes.
