How to Stay Fit When You Spend a Lot of Time in Hotels

Travel can wreak havoc on your fitness plan, but there are ways to stay fit even if you spend a lot of time in hotels. With a little advanced planning, you can keep your body moving even when you aren’t at home.

Use the Gym

If you have a choice, stay in a hotel with a gym. You can simply pack workout clothes and head to the gym before your day starts or after it ends. Though hotel gyms are often small, they still have machines for cardio and weights for lifting. Going to the gym helps you to stay in shape and also breaks some of the monotony involved in travel and hotel stays. You’ll get out of your room and be able to engage your body no matter how much time you’re away from home. This can help to combat the loneliness that people face after being on the road for too long. Plus, you’ll feel better after a workout in a gym.

Swim in the Pool

A hotel with a pool is ideal if you want to squeeze in a workout. An indoor pool should be open all year, and swimming is a major cardio workout. Outdoor pools are also nice when the weather permits, though you may have to compete with a larger crowd in the summer. If you’re worried about swimming not being enough of a workout, there are plenty of facts to back up its benefits. Swimming tones your muscles, builds strength, and allows you to increase your heart rate with reduced stress impact on your body. It’s the perfect well-rounded workout. According to Joseph J. Lorusso, hotels and resorts are responsible for making sure pools and hot tubs are properly maintained and safe for guests. You shouldn’t have to worry about the water or if the pool is being regularly cleaned because that’s part of the hotel’s job.

Bring Running Shoes and a Yoga Mat

If the idea of hitting the gym after a long day doesn’t appeal to you, then make sure the hotel you stay at has areas where you can run outside. Runners have the benefit of simply bringing shoes and hitting the pavement anywhere they go. You can explore the city you’re staying in this way, and being outside will also benefit your physical and mental health. Check out running routes before you arrive, and use a tracking app that also offers you directions so that you won’t get lost in a new city. For cities that don’t offer safe running routes, bring a yoga mat with you to the hotel. As Rosen Inn also suggests, you can access yoga videos on your computer or phone and exercise in the privacy of your room. This is also a good idea during the winter when running outside might be a pretty miserable prospect.

If you’re concerned about maintaining your health while you’re out traveling, there’s no need to worry! Staying in shape while on the road is possible. If you spend a lot of time in hotels, you can still prioritize your workout routine to stay fit.
