Overlooked Travel Destinations in the United States

Too often, people think only of foreign countries or the iconic photo-op scenes for “destination vacations.” However, there are so many places in the United States that offer some incredible, unique experiences that you won’t find anywhere else! Here are a few of the more overlooked travel destinations in America.

The Oregon Coast

The Oregon Coast is a favorite area for so many—in fact, many families and individuals make it a routine vacation spot! This is a charming coastal area that differs from many other beaches for its deep colors, caused by commonly gray skies and especially deep, clear waters. There are nearly four hundred miles of Oregon coastline for you to explore, wander, and enjoy. Some of the most peaceful and scenic waves around await you in this gorgeous state!

The Upper Midwest

The Upper Midwest is often characterized—perhaps even stereotyped—as an expansive land of “nothing”. Hundreds of miles of rolling hills are pleasant for paintings, but people tend to avoid them for trips! However, the upper Midwest actually has so much to offer. This area contains some of the biggest and most popular, (as well as some of the lesser known or underappreciated) national parks. For example, Picture Rocks National Lakeshore is a great place to enjoy natural beauty and outdoor activities. Theodore Roosevelt Park in North Dakota, the Badlands of South Dakota, Isle Royale in Michigan… All of these are stunning spots of vivid color and terrain that most people don’t even know exist! Look into the variety offered throughout the upper Midwest as you consider your next trip!

South-Eastern National Parks

Although the Midwest contains the majority of national park land, the southeastern parks are equally beautiful and unique. Ever heard of Congaree? Biscayne? Tortuga? Add these to your bucket list of national parks! The south’s coastline has some of the most diverse land in the country, especially in regards to the wildlife, plant life and water features. Plus, many of these parks are fairly close to each other in proximity… so you can park-hop from spot to spot and enjoy a whole range of amazing landscapes! Introduce the rest of the world to these lesser known parks, and be the first of your friends to show off some of America’s most amazing destinations.

Don’t be one to overlook these American landscapes! Enjoy the views, the activities, and the less-trafficked feel of these parks and coastlines.
