Relaxing Activities You Can Do on a Beach Vacation

A beach vacation is a perfect destination for getting away from the stress and demands of your everyday life. Your cares will drift away as you surround yourself with the natural beauty of sand and surf. While you may spend your evenings dining and enjoying the nightlife, during the day, take advantage of the beach to really relax.

Read a Book

The beach is the perfect place to dig into the newest bestseller, romance, or mystery. The steady sound of the waves creates a white noise that blurs away distractions so you can immerse yourself into the fictional world.

The best choice for a relaxing beach read is one that doesn’t tax your mind too much. A paperback is easy to pack in your beach bag, and it won’t get damaged if you doze off on your beach chair. Be careful with an e-reader; it may not be compatible with sun, sand, or water.

Sun Tanning

Your body needs sunlight, and there’s no better place to get a good dose of it than on the beach. Take off your cover-up, lie down on your beach towel, and let the sun warm your skin. You’ll not only develop a great glow, you’ll feel great afterwards.

But while a little tanning can be attractive, you’ll want to avoid sunburn and skin damage. Putting on sunscreen will protect your skin from UV rays. This is especially important midday when the sun’s rays are at their strongest.

Take a Walk

Walking along the beach is not only relaxing, it’s entertaining and good exercise. Walking barefoot in the sand strengthens your feet, ankles, and calves, and it burns more calories than walking on a flat surface. If the beach is rocky, or you’re planning a long walk, you can use rubber-soled water shoes.

It’s always amusing to people-watch on a crowded beach, and taking a walk lets you see the sights. If it’s quieter, you can search the beach for interesting seashells or driftwood. Take an early morning or evening walk, and you may see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, depending on where you are.

Your beach vacation can be whatever you want, but do take ample time to relax. A few hours on the beach can be just what you need. Relaxing along the shore will rest your body and restore your spirit—just what you need a vacation to do.
