It’s no surprise that going on a trip of any kind will require some preparation. Even a picnic in a park needs to be thought out beforehand. However, there are some trips that will require an extra level or preparation.
Backpacking Trips
As you plan a backpacking trip, you first need to figure out the most basic element: where are you going? To pick the location where you’ll be backpacking, you need to gather plenty of information beforehand so you know what to expect. Certain times of year will be better than others. You need to know what sort of terrain to expect and what weather is common. There might also be certain regulations in place. For example, due to droughts and other reasons, some areas might prevent you from having campfires. All these things need to be considered.
Once you have a location picked, you need to begin the monumental task of packing. You need to think through all the supplies you’ll need (including food, shelter, and emergency supplies). On top of all of that, you also need to think through the best way to actually pack all of your belongings. To go the extra mile to prepare, you can also do some training and exercising to make sure you can physically handle the trip.
Winter Camping
Camping on its own already needs quite a bit of preparation but camping in winter brings in a whole new list of considerations. The biggest thing you need to remember is the cold. You absolutely must prepare to keep warm. Multiple layers keep you warmer in the winter than a single layer. You need to pack accordingly. You also need to make sure your tent or other shelter will keep you warm throughout the night when it will be much colder. Additionally, you need to find the right spot at the right time. Severe weather can make your experience more difficult.
Overnight Rafting Trips
Going on a multi-day rafting trip is sure to give you plenty of thrills. However, if you don’t prepare properly, it can ruin the fun. The most important thing to keep in mind is what and how you pack. You want to make sure you have all the essentials such as toiletries, a sleeping bag, and some extra clothes. You also need to bring sunscreen, bug spray, extra water bottles, and even lotion for your hands. As you pack, you want to find the best ways to keep your things as dry as possible.
If you want to have a good time, you need to take time to prepare. Complex trips will take some extra planning, but it’s worth it to be thorough.
