What International Travelers Should Know Before Visiting the U.S.

No matter what country you travel to, there are certain essential items of preparation: The U.S. is no different. As you create your itinerary, don’t forget some of the most important items to consider before arriving in America: documentation, regulations, and cultural norms.

Prepare Your Documents

Depending upon your resident country, you may be required to present a variety of different documents. Nevertheless, the majority of people traveling into the United States merely necessitate a valid passport. Depending upon the length of your stay or reasons for traveling, you may also need a U.S. visa. If you have any other questions about the documents necessary for entry into the U.S., consult with a local travel agency or the U.S. government agency for travel and immigration.

COVID-19 Hotspots

Every American state has different COVID-19 requirements. Depending on where you are going and where you are coming from, you may not be permitted into the country, or you may have to present evidence of a negative COVID-19 test. Furthermore, if the city you are headed to has a high proportion of positive COVID-19 cases, you may want to postpone your visit. Particular U.S. COVID-19 hotspots include many parts of California, Texas, Florida, etc.

Some countries do not allow residents to enter back into the country until they can prove that they aren’t contagious. Fortunately, the CDC operates quarantine stations for most international travelers. So, in the case that you do come down with COVID-19, there will be officials guiding you through certain precautionary measures to guarantee that everyone remains safe.

Research the Culture

Diversity is a beautiful part of life. Each region’s culture adds to this diversity and reflects upon the values of the local community. Whenever anyone travels to a new area—within their own country or abroad—they should be mindful of the culture of their destination. So, if this is your first time traveling to the U.S., it would be a good idea to take some time to research the culture. For example, in most places in the U.S., it is considered very rude not to tip a waiter or waitress.

Traveling is a wonderful opportunity to explore the world and its assortment of experiences, people, and places. While travel to the U.S. is exceptionally exciting, it is important to be prepared as a foreign guest. Keep in mind the documents you will need, any COVID-19 restrictions, and the culture of your destination.
