Why You Should Wear Long Pants on a Hike

When you go on a hike, what is the first thing you think about? For most people, it’s probably what clothes to wear. And while shorts might be comfortable, they’re not always the best option for a hike.

Here are some of the top reasons why you should wear long pants on a hike.

Protect Yourself from Debris

Long pants are wise attire for any hike, offering protection from flying debris, scrapes from brambles, and bruises from falls. Your skin will appreciate the extra layer against the sun’s strong ultraviolet rays and wearing thick fabric will prevent scratches and bites from bugs, snakes, or other wild creatures.

While shorts might seem like a better choice in hot weather, you will be thankful that your legs are covered with jeans or trousers as your journey continues. When it comes to long hikes, it’s always best to pack layers of protective clothing – don’t forget to bring along some long pants!

Prevent Bug Bites

When going out on a nature hike, it is always important to keep safety and comfort in mind. One way you can achieve this is by wearing long pants – not only will the extra coverage offer protection against rocks or thorns on the trail, but it will also help prevent bug bites.

Ticks that carry Lyme disease are less common in the Western United States. But even so, taking preventive measures like wearing long pants helps minimize any risk. By protecting your skin from bug bites, you’ll be able to experience your nature hike free from discomfort and itching!

Sun Protection

Heading out on a hike can be an exhilarating and rewarding experience, but one that requires some preparation. One often overlooked detail is the choice of clothing – precisely what type of pants to wear. Long pants provide sun protection that shorts simply cannot. Wearing long pants gives your skin reliable coverage from UV rays, and can potentially prevent skin damage from sunburns. Furthermore, with many varieties of long hiking pants incorporating features like airy fabric and ventilation zippers, you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for the sake of sun protection. So before you hit the mountains or trails, pull on some long pants and enjoy an adventure without worrying about any unexpected sun exposure.

If you want to stay comfortable and safe on your hike, you need to dress appropriately. Shorts may seem smart, but they have their consequences. Always wear long pants on your walks to maintain your safety.
