Turkish Airlines ‘Making far feel close’ in Super Bowl Ad

While sports fans tune in to the Super Bowl for the game (sans Tom Brady…), others consider the commercials the biggest draw. Companies have created an almost Academy Awards level event surrounding the newest advertisements released during the big game. One of the more enjoyable ads that aired during the second half was from Turkish Airlines, as they expertly tapped into pandemic travel’s emotional issue

Turkish Airlines Super Bowl Ad

The sweet, sweet voice of Morgan Freeman narrates the history of the supercontinent Pangea. “300 million years ago, there was no Africa, Asia, Americas, or Europe. Just one big supercontinent, Pangea. And today, there is still a force connecting those divided by distance. Reversing millions of years of rifting. Making far, feel close. Bringing there, to here.”

While the Super Bowl ad doesn’t mention the pandemic or the severely lacking opportunities to travel over the last two years, it envokes the spark. The deep desire inside all of us to experience new worlds and see parts of this Earth we’ve never experienced before. It reminded us how easy it is to feel isolated, how during quarantine, even someone as close as your next-door neighbor can feel like worlds away.

Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines, the people behind this ad, boast a tagline “Flying to Most Countries.” For a company that lists nearly 300 destinations on their website, it is hard to imagine finding a place they don’t service. As countries begin to loosen travel restrictions and open their borders to travelers again, Turkish Airlines looks to remind us all that the farthest reaches of the world are merely a plane ticket away. You may not be lucky enough to sit next to Morgan Freeman and have him narrate your flight to Istanbul, but you can experience everything Pangea has to offer. Once you step off the plane and into a new world, far will begin to feel close.
