Two British Women Killed While Stepping off Cruise Ship in Middle East

Two British women have reportedly been killed while stepping off a coach in Salalah, Oman during an excursion on an ‘Authentic Arabia’ cruise in the Middle East.

Sources at Mirror say the women, both who have yet to be named, we’re stepping off near the Haffa market when an unlicensed driver veered into the wrong lane and hit them. A third person involved in the accident, a British man, was seriously injured but is said to now be in stable condition.

The incident took place around 11 a.m on Thursday, September 27. All three were guests onboard the Boudicca, a Fred Olsen Cruises ship that was traveling from Aqaba in Jordan to Abu Dhabi.

Fred Olsen Cruises published a statement on their website saying, “Royal Oman Police preliminary reports suggest the cause of the accident was the driver’s deviation from his lane. The driver also did not hold a driving license. Further investigations into the accident are ongoing.”

A senior member of Fred Olsen’s UK head office team has flown to Salalah to provide additional assistance and a crew member onboard the Boudicca has remained behind with the unnamed man in the hospital.

While thousands of Brits visit Oman every year without running into problems, the Foreign Office warns travelers should maintain a high level of security and awareness in public places and on the roads.

The cruise line says they’re continuing to work closely with the local tour operator, the authorities in Salalah and Oman and the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office to provide full support to all those affected.
