Two Planes Quarantined at Philadelphia Airport

For the second time this week, flights arriving in the United States from the Middle East were quarantined at an airport due to several passengers showing flu-like symptoms.

According to NBC Philadelphia, Customs and Border Protection officials said two American Airlines flights landed at Philadelphia International Airport Thursday and were quarantined after around 12 combined passengers complained about falling ill.

American Flight 755 was flying from Paris to Philadelphia with passengers who visited Mecca, Saudi Arabia, when people onboard started flu-like symptoms. On American Flight 717 from Munich, Germany, several passengers who also reportedly visited Mecca became sick.

While the majority of passengers and crew members on the planes were examined and released by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials, several people were still under the care of doctors out of an abundance of caution.

The incident in Philadelphia comes after Emirates Flight 203 landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City Wednesday following a flight from Dubai International Airport. The CDC was called to the scene after around 10 people reportedly fell ill during the journey.

In total, three passengers and seven crew members ended up hospitalized Wednesday.
