3 More Quakes Rattle the South Pacific and Indonesia

While still recovering from the devastating and fatal earthquakes earlier this month, several islands in the South Pacific and Indonesia were rocked by a trio of quakes on Sunday.

On August 5, the Indonesian island of Lombok was struck by a massive tremor that took the lives of more than 430 civilians and was recorded as the strongest quake to hit Lombok in history. With a 6.9-magnitude, the quake came about a week after it’s foreshock, which measured as a 6.4.

Today’s most recent rumble came just hours after Southeast Asia and the South Pacific were struck with quakes of their own. Approximately two and a half miles south of Belanting, hitting the already damaged island of Lombok, the quake was measured with a 6.9-magnitude and as stated by CNN, no casualties or damages have been reported.

Earlier today, almost 4 miles northeast of Sembalunlawaang, Lombok and its neighboring island Bali could moderately feel the shakes of another quake. According to the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics, that tremor was measured with a 6.5-magnitude.

About 200 miles off the coasts of Fiji and Tonga, the third quake rattled the Pacific. Thankfully it was hundreds of miles underground, as it measured with a mighty magnitude of 8.2. As of right now, there have been no reports of any major injuries or damage following today’s quakes and no tsunami warnings have been issued.
