Terror Attack in London Shuts Down Area Around Parliament Building

Police are investigating what they believe is a terror attack Tuesday after a man in his 20s drove a car into pedestrians and cyclists in London before crashing the vehicle into barriers outside the parliament buildings.

According to Reuters.com, British police arrested the suspected terrorist shortly after the attack on the popular tourist attraction, which left three people injured. Authorities believe this was the second attack on the parliament buildings over the last 18 months.

“Given that this appears to be a deliberate act, the method, and this being an iconic site, we are treating it as a terrorist incident,” London Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu told Reuters.

Camera footage from the scene showed the suspect’s silver Ford Fiesta turn into a group of cyclists and pedestrians before crashing into barriers outside the Houses of Parliament at around 6:30 a.m. local time.

“At this early stage of the investigation, no other suspects at the scene have been identified or reported to police,” Basu continued. “There is no intelligence of further danger to Londoners or the rest of the UK in connection with this incident.”

As a result of the attack, officers shut down a large area around the parliament buildings and the Westminster Underground station, which are popular among tourists and government workers.
