Most whale watchers hope to get as close as possible to the majestic sea creatures but one tourist boat in Southeast Alaska got a little too close for comfort during a recent excursion.
According to KTUU, video captured by Tristan Krause shows a massive humpback whale breaching the water right in front of a tour boat, nearly landing on top.
The incident left passengers shocked and soaked. However, thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Located just outside of Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park, the waters of the Icy Strait are a popular place for whale watching tours during the summer months. In addition to humpback whales, visitors are likely to spot orcas and minke whales.
The dramatic close encounter is reminiscent of a recent incident at a Mexican safari park in which a rhino began ramming a family’s SUV, nearly toppling it over.
