Woman Shares Details of Attack During Stay at Dominican Republic Resort

A Delaware woman has shared the details of her harrowing attack at a Dominican Republic resort.

What started out as a dream vacation quickly became a nightmare said Tammy Lawrence-Daley in a Facebook post that described her January attack, which occurred at the Majestic Elegance resort in Punta Cana.

In the Facebook post, Lawrence-Daley said: “Now that I’ve had some time to heal, it’s time to tell my story, in the hopes that women will be more aware, and hopefully prevent what happened to me.”

She goes on to describe how she attended an evening show at the resort and headed back to her room around 10:30 p.m. When she couldn’t get room service, she decided to head down to the lounge for a snack and was walking through a hallway when she was apprehended by her attacker.

“That’s when I heard it. Heavy footsteps… one, two, three, four, then they sped up, and then before I could react I was plowed into from behind and immediately immobilized. His arms wrapped around me and he started pulling me immediately into an unlocked maintenance room…,” she shared in the post.

Lawrence-Daley was missing for five hours and spent five days in a medical clinic at a nearby hospital. She has undergone several surgeries to repair her injuries and is still recovering from the assault.

As far as an investigation seeking the attacker, she says that it has been very limited.

“This man thought he killed me, but he failed. He is still out there, a predator, waiting for his next victim. Only the next woman may not be so fortunate. Please, please do not walk alone,” she continues in her post.

While there has been no comment from investigators or the resort itself, the U.S. State Department told the New York Post that they are aware of the situation and continue to follow her case very closely.”

“The welfare and safety of US citizens abroad is one of the highest priorities of the Department of State,” said State Department spokesman Noel Clay.
