Aeromexico Launches Discount for Passengers with Mexican DNA

Mexico’s largest airline Aeromexico recently launched an ad campaign mocking the immigration battles raging in the United States by offering people a discount based on their Mexican heritage.

The ad begins with interviews of several locals in a small Texas town who openly admit they would not consider traveling to Mexico. One man even went as far as saying, “let me stay here in peace and let those folks stay on their side of the border.”

While it was unclear if the people interviewed for the advertisement were actors, they were reportedly all given DNA tests to determine what percentage of their heritage came back as Mexican. That percentage would be the discount applied to their ticket fare.

“The more Mexican they are, the more discount they get,” the ad said.

While some of the Texans interviewed were just happy to be getting a discount, one man was furious after finding out he was 22 percent Mexican. When he learned about the 22 percent discount, though, he asked if his wife would also get the cheaper rate.

Some saw the DNA Discounts campaign as a jab at U.S. President Donald Trump and the ongoing partial federal government shutdown caused in part by the fight over a border wall.
