American Airlines Waiving Oversize Bag Fees for Sports, Music Equipment

To help accommodate the rush of summer travelers, American Airlines announced it is eliminating oversize bag fees for common sports and music equipment starting May 21.

American’s updated policies regarding oversized sports and music equipment will ensure travelers can easily pursue active and healthy lifestyles wherever their travels may take them, without having to pay additional oversize bag fees.

Customers can check popular oversized sports and music equipment as standard baggage, up to the maximum allowed dimensions and within the weight requirements, which can be found at the airline’s official website.

For travelers who still want to fly with antlers, hang gliders, scuba tanks and kite/windsurfing items, there will still be a flat $150 fee due to special handling requirements. Additional allowances and restrictions may apply based on the destination, class of service and elite status.

American also recently announced plans to develop a sixth terminal at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, providing a long-term commitment from the airline and opportunities for businesses and customers in the fastest-growing region in the United States.
