On Monday, July 13, 2020, ExpressJet Airlines issued WARN letters, Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications, to their entire workforce. The notice “warns” employees that their positions may be eliminated in 60 days as the airline will need to reduce its workforce after the payroll assistance through the CARES Act expires on September 30, 2020.
At the moment Management is unclear on exactly how many employees will be furloughed, and states that this letter can be “revoked” or “rescinded” once an accurate number is developed. According to the Pilots collective bargaining agreement, furlough letters must be sent via certified or express mail and those haven’t yet been received. However, employees on social media predict the bottom 22% of Pilots may be furloughed. There’s no news yet on the number of flight attendants in jeopardy.
