Ex-Unified Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan Removed From American Airlines Flight

Police had to escort former unified light-welterweight champion Amir Khan from an American Airlines flight. Amir Khan was bound to Colorado Springs to his training camp as he prepares to face fellow British boxer Kell Brook.

Amir Khan was boarding an American Airlines flight from New York to Colorado Springs when he had a disagreement with a flight staff. According to Khan, the cabin crew alleged that his companion wasn’t wearing his face mask properly. Khan believed that another passenger may have complained before the staff decided to intervene. Shortly after, the police escorted Khan.

Amir Khan Removed From Flight For “No Reason”

On Twitter, Khan blasted American Airlines saying that he “got escorted by the police off the plane for no reason”. He added that “I have never seen anything like this before in my life—I am literally heartbroken”.

Khan expressed his frustration and said that he “just wanted to be in camp”. The former world champion also used the hashtag “notallterrorists” on his tweets. Khan is still planning to fly to Colorado Springs but he demanded answers from American Airlines.

According to an American Airlines official, “Our customer relations team is reaching out to Mr. Khan to learn more about his experience and reinforce the importance of policies implemented for the safety of our customers and crew”.

Federal Mask Mandate

The federal mask mandate on airplanes and other modes of transportation is in effect until January 2022. With the delta variant causing the latest surge in the US, the extension of the mask mandate wasn’t exactly surprising.

Unfortunately, passengers refusing to wear masks properly have also been the reason for the number of unruly passengers. Despite the zero-tolerance mandate on unruly passengers, airline employees still have to deal with violent passengers onboard. Some flight attendants experienced physical assault that even had them injured.
