If Athens is on your bucket list, now might be the best time to book a deal. FlyerTalkers have found a deal under $2,700 for direct flights between Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Athens International Airport – a discount of over $1,000 from typical flight prices.
Travelers hoping to get away to the Mediterranean in the late summer have a great opportunity to get away with American Airlines. FlyerTalker buckeye91 found a great rate over the Cinco de Mayo weekend from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Athens International Airport (ATH) in mid-August for around $2,600.
The original fare was found on May 5, 2019, for under $2,500. When FlyerTalk double checked the price three days later, it held steady at $2,601 round-trip in American Airlines business class. The nonstop 10-hour flight departs in the evening hours on both legs, and lands in the afternoon to early evening.
According to Google Flights, prices are at a current low for the oneworld carriers. Other flights including at least one stop aboard other carriers range between $2,900 and $5,086. And per the American earning chart, the I-class flight marketed by British Airways would grant 125% base miles, offer two elite qualifying miles per miles flown, but the spend would only count 25% towards elite qualifying dollars. For those counting elite qualifying segments, those flyers would only get one segment per flight.
When it comes to staying in Athens, FlyerTalkers recommend earning Marriott Bonvoy points at two downtown hotels. Their picks include the Hotel Grande Bretagne, a Luxury Collection Hotel, or the King George, a Luxury Collection Hotel. While the Hotel Grande Bretagne offers a combination of history with incredible views and central location, the King George offers award-winning dining and easy access to historical sites like the Parthenon and the Ancient Agora. Both are available for 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.
