Here’s the Name of Hapag-Lloyd’s Third Expedition Ship

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is adding another expedition ship to its fleet. T

he new vessel, named HANSEATIC spirit, will be built at the Norwegian VARD shipyard.

She’s set to debut in the second quarter of 2021 as the line’s first adults-only ship.

The Hamburg-based Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is a subsidiary of TUI Group. The line will add two expedition ships to its fleet before HANSEATIC sprit debuts. In the spring of 2019, HANSEATIC nature enters service, while HANSEATIC inspiration launches in the autumn of 2019.

“Our expedition segment is already a success and offers potential for growth in the 5-star segment that we want to harness with these three new ships. With the new ships, we are launching a new expedition class and strengthening our leading position in this segment. By investing in the new Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ ships, the TUI Group is underlining its strategy for this cruise segment and the importance of our luxury brand to the group portfolio,” said
Karl J. Pojer, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

All three ships are structurally identical and will hold the highest ice class rating for passenger vessels, PC6. They will carry a maximum of 230 passengers or 199 for Antarctic and Spitsbergen navigations. A large percentage of staterooms will include balconies.

Hapag-Lloyd’s three expedition ships will be positioned in the polar regions, as well as warmer destinations, such as the Amazon. Passengers will be able to explore remote areas aboard Zodiacs. And, an onboard marina makes water sports possible.
