How to Win at Holiday Hosting

November officially ushers in the holiday season, bringing with it the hustle and bustle we’ve been missing the past couple of years. In fact, trend experts predict robust spending and larger family gatherings in the face of inflation that’s been running at or near 40-year highs for months.

Consumer spending has remained vibrant beyond most economists’ expectations and points to an overall holiday hurrah. How can hosts plan for the party? It starts with décor, according to Etsy, there has been more than a 300% increase in searches for disco ball decorations, 86% increase for vibrant wall art, and a 24% increase for colorful wreaths.

A “picked from nature” trend started several years ago but has picked up steam for the 2022 holiday season. This includes real trees and real garland draped on stairwells and mantels. Living greens are also expected on tabletops. Elaborate tablescapes are sure to show up in homes this holiday season, including fun prints and patterns, and bows and embroidery.

From cocktails to desserts, planning the perfect holiday menu starts with knowing your guests’ palates and dietary restrictions. This can include traditional dishes like roast turkey and honey-glazed ham with almonds, to seasonal surprises sure to be crowd pleasing, like crispy bacon-wrapped brussels sprouts to baked brie with cranberries and pomegranate.

Quality time reigns supreme in 2022. Recent surveys reveal most Americans plan to travel and spend time with friends and family this holiday season. That is why it is important to plan ahead to ensure household chores and post dinner cleanups are easy and require little time.
