Philippine Airlines to Fly A350 Nonstop to NYC

Philippine Airlines is set to speed up flights from Manila to New York City this fall in what’s no doubt welcome news for business travelers.

CEO Jaime Bautista confirmed the carrier will begin operating the fuel-efficient Airbus A350-900 on the long-haul route this October, Reuters reported.

Philippine Airlines currently operates the route with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, making a stop in Vancouver. The new nonstop route from the Philippine capital to John F. Kennedy International Airport will cover approximately 8,520 miles and take 16 hours to complete.

The first nonstop flight will depart October 30, according to the airline‘s website.

The carrier is also considering utilizing the A350 on its daily flights to London to further improve profitability amid rising fuel costs.

The news comes just two months after Singapore Airlines revealed plans to add the world’s longest flight via the A350, an almost 19-hour trip from Singapore to Newark, New Jersey.

Philippine Airlines is scheduled to take delivery of 15 planes this year, including the Airbus 321neo, which will be used to fly nonstop routes from Manila to Brisbane, Australia and to Mumbai and New Delhi in India.
