Plane Lands Safely After Front Landing Gear Fails

Passengers on a Myanmar National Airlines plane had a harrowing experience on Sunday when the plane had to land without its front landing gear.

Myanmar National Airlines Flight UB103 was flying from Yangon to Mandalay International Airport with 82 passengers and 72 crew members on board when the front landing gear failed to deploy.

The pilot informed the control tower before landing of the technical issue. The plane’s EICAS – Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System – notified the pilot that the landing gear wouldn’t deploy. The backup emergency procedure to pull down the wheels didn’t work either.

The plane flew by the air controller tower twice for visual confirmation that the wheels had not deployed. The pilot dumped fuel to reduce the landing weight before attempting to land.

After the pilot set the rear wheels on the ground, the plane’s nose fell forward, scraping the runway and creating sparks before slowing down the aircraft to a stop.

Everyone on board was reported safe and evacuated the aircraft without injuries.
