Being part of someone’s wedding is a heavy responsibility, but one bridesmaid who was removed from a wedding party due to her travel schedule found an unlikely friend in JetBlue.
According to the New York Post, Dartmouth College student Courtney Duffy received a letter from the bride telling her that she was fired from being a bridesmaid due to her inability to be part of the festivities surrounding the wedding.
Duffy’s schedule had been limited due to her schoolwork, but she claims she was working hard to be part of as many events as possible. Not only did the bride demote her friend from the wedding party, but she also asked Duffy to send her jumpsuit back, which she was to wear as a bridesmaid.
On Twitter, Duffy reached out to JetBlue with her tale of sorrow, looking for some help:
“SOS @JetBlue! Booked my X-C flights for a wedding, then was asked ‘to relinquish’ my ‘duties as a bridesmaid’ & mail my bridesmaid outfit X-C so another girl could fill in and wear it (Happy Bday to me!) I am laughing & crying & must avoid this wedding at all costs. Pls help?”
While the story has caused social media to take sides in the friendship-wedding battle, JetBlue swooped in and made a stand in favor of Duffy. The airline awarded her with a travel voucher for a future trip and waived cancellation fees for the cross-country flight to the wedding.
JetBlue issued the following response on Twitter:
Hey Courtney, we’ve been thinking. The jumpsuit may have been borrowed, but we’ll bring the (Jet)Blue. When you’re ready to patch things up, we’d like to help make your old friendship feel like new. A future girls’ weekend is on us!
