Shore Excursion Turns Fatal For Tourists

A pair of newlywed Israeli tourists were in a zip-lining accident in Honduras Thursday while on a shore excursion from a cruise ship, leaving the husband dead and the wife seriously injured.

According to The Times of Israel, the couple was zip lining on the island of Roatan when the 27-year-old Shif Fanken reportedly stopped in the middle of the ride for an unspecified reason.

A short time later, 24-year-old Egael Tishman went down the zip line and struck his wife, causing serious injuries to both. The husband was transported to a local Honduran hospital where he died early Friday.

Fanken was flown to the United States Friday morning, underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition, according to The Washington Post. Officials at the Israeli Embassy in Guatemala were making the proper arraignments to fly Tishman’s body back to Israel.

Tishman and Fanken arrived on the island of Roatan as part of a cruise itinerary on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas. The couple was married the day before the journey began and the ship set sail from Florida on July 1.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said the company is providing assistance to the family and friends of the impacted passengers.
