Singapore Airlines dethrones Qatar Airways to clinch Skytrax world’s best airline

Singapore Airlines has been voted the World’s Best Airline at the Skytrax 2018 World Airline Awards.

Singapore Airlines has been voted the World’s Best Airline in 2018, with Qatar Airways taking second place and All Nippon Airways in third position.

In recent years, Emirates and Qatar Airways had dominated the World’s Best Airline award, winning a combined six of the last seven years.

Singapore Airlines’ win marks its return to the top after a ten year absence.

SIA CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong, who accepted the award in London today, said: “Singapore Airlines is honoured to be named World’s Best Airline in the Skytrax awards, and I dedicate it to the 26,000 SIA Group employees who focus every day on delivering the world’s best travel experience to our customers.”

Referred to by the media as the “Oscars of the aviation industry,” airline leaders and top airline management from around the world arrived at the iconic Langham Hotel in London for the awards ceremony.

In addition to taking second place in the World’s Best Airline results, Qatar Airways collected major awards for the World’s Best Business Class, the Best Business Class Seat, the World’s Best First Class Lounge and the Best Airline in the Middle East.

Another notable accolade includes China Southern Airlines winning the World’s Most Improved Airline.
