Southwest Investigating The ‘Let’s Go, Brandon’ Incident

Southwest Airlines announced on Sunday that the airline is doing an internal investigation after a pilot insulted President Joe Biden using the plane’s public address system last week. The pilot used the phrase “Let’s go Brandon” when the pilot greeted the passengers.

What Does Let’s Go Brandon Mean?

The Let’s Go, Brandon phrase is already becoming popular among right-wing circles. It’s a stand-in for swearing at President Joe Biden.

South Carolina Republican Jeff Duncan wore a “Let’s Go, Brandon” face mask last week. On the other hand, Senator Ted Cruz posed with a Let’s Go Brandon sign during the World Series. The phrase has been mentioned on the House floor by a Republican lawmaker. Plus, the term has been circulating on social media.

It’s a code that roughly means “F— Joe Biden”. It’s a not-so-secret code that started at a NASCAR race on October 2. Brandon Brown won his first Xfinity Series. And while Brandon Brown was interviewed, the crowd was chanting something that was first difficult to make out. The interviewer suggested that it was “Let’s go, Brandon” but it was “F— Joe Biden”.

GOP ad maker Jim Innocenzi said that the code was “hilarious”. He also said that “Unless you are living in a cave, you know what it means”.

AP Reporter On Board

The phrase drew gasps from passengers onboard the Houston to Albuquerque flight on Friday. A reporter from Associated Press was on the flight when the incident happened.

In a statement by Southwest, the carrier will “address the situation directly with any Employee involved while continuing to remind all Employees that public expression of personal opinions while on duty is unacceptable”.

Southwest added that it “does not condone Employees sharing personal political opinions while on the job”. It also explained that “one Employee’s individual perspective should not be interpreted as the viewpoint of Southwest and its collective 54,000 Employees”.
