Southwest Starts Giving Travel Vouchers to Affected Passengers

Southwest Airlines issued an apology to its customers for the chaotic weekend in which most of it’s schedule was disrupted. If you’ve been affected by flight cancelations, you might want to check your email. Southwest began sending apologies along with travel vouchers.

Some received an email with an opening line of “You matter to us”. It also mentioned, “We hope this LUV Voucher will allow our paths to cross again soon as we can have a better experience”. Some customers affected by the flight cancelations received $250 travel vouchers via email.

Other affected passengers received a different email. It starts with “We know things didn’t go as planned when traveling”. It is then followed by an apology “We’re sorry for disappointing this disruption caused and want a chance to make it up to you”. Inside this email is a $100 voucher.

Quietly Sending Travel Vouchers

The airline didn’t announce the availability of the vouchers. Also, Southwest didn’t elaborate how much and when are the passengers getting the travel vouchers.

Southwest spokesperson Brandy King said that affected passengers should automatically get LUV vouchers. However, he said that it “might be slower than usual due to the number of customers we are processing”.

The airline didn’t explain how it determines the value of the travel vouchers sent. King said in an email that “We review each situation individually to determine the compensation based on level of inconvenience”. She added that “The level of inconvenience is a mix of the length of delay, quality of reaccommodation options, and flight cancelations”.

Also, it appears that the frequent flyer status also affects how much passengers get.
