Mexico Removes All Travel Restrictions

Mexico is waiting if the travel bug has hit you, and you need to get away despite the recent increase in COVID cases. With the omicron variant causing governments to increase restrictions for entering their countries, Mexico is removing all COVID-19 entrance restrictions. This move will make them the second country to remove all restrictions and return to the normality of 2019.

What travel restrictions are changing?

Last year, Mexico implemented Vuela Seguro, a healthcare questionnaire required for all international and domestic flights. The form asked health-related questions. Such as the possibility of close contact with a COVID-positive person. The questionnaire would also ask if travelers have had coughs, fever, and other COVID-19 related symptoms.

Upon completion of the form, the traveler received a QR code that authorities could scan at the airport to allow them to get through security freely and without scrutiny.

Mexico has now removed travel restrictions

Mexico had some of the most relaxed travel restrictions throughout the pandemic globally. This fact made the country a popular travel destination as people clung to any level of normalcy they could find. As of 2022, Mexico has discontinued the Vuela Seguro, returning Mexico to the travel conditions of 2019. There are no questionnaires, no required tests, and no required quarantines. Coupled with Frontier Airlines adding multiple direct flights to Cancun from the United States, Mexico is primed to have a massive year in tourism.

As far as what restrictions travelers will face in-country, the Mexican government keeps those equally light. As of now, most places require masks but do not require proof of vaccination. Regardless of the relaxed travel restrictions in Mexico, American citizens returning to the country after a trip to Mexico will need to provide a negative test for reentry.
