Thailand is a favorite destination among different types of tourists. The country hosts tourists ranging from backpackers to those travelers looking for a luxurious tropical experience. 39.92 million tourists visited Thailand in 2019. As the pandemic affected its tourism sector last year, it isn’t surprising why the country is trying creative strategies to lure tourists back to traveling the country.
Thailand is set to reduce its 14-day quarantine to just 7 days for people who are vaccinated. To enjoy the 7-day quarantine, you will need to be fully vaccinated within the last three months. Also, you will need to have a negative COVID19 test three days before your scheduled arrival in the country.
If you haven’t received your vaccine yet but tested negative, you can still quarantine for less than 14 days. You will only have to quarantine for 10 days. However, this will not apply to African tourists who should still complete the 14-day quarantine. This is due to health officials’ concern over new COVID strains.
Thailand is looking to waive the quarantine period altogether after October. However, there’s a condition for this to happen. Thailand should first be able to vaccinate 70% of its medical personnel and its at-risk population. Thailand already started its vaccine rollout in late February.
If you can’t wait until October to travel, there is a great way to spend your quarantine rather than just staying in your designated hotel. The Thai government now allows foreign tourists to spend quarantine on a yacht. There are around 100 yachts or small cruise ships available once the program is underway. This program starts in May.
While on the yacht, travelers have to wear bands that will monitor their location, and vitals including temperature and blood pressure. The digital wristbands can transmit signals up to six miles away even at sea.
This isn’t the first time Thailand introduced a creative approach in its mandatory quarantine procedure. Earlier this year, Thailand allowed foreign visitors to spend their quarantine on a golf course.
