Airlines Still Offering Waivers to Travelers in Florida

Former Hurricane Michael may no longer be impacting the United States, but the path of destruction left in its path has caused several major airlines to continue waiving change fees for impacted travelers.

One of the airports hit the hardest by the storm was Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Panama City, Florida, which finally opened to passenger flight operations during daylight hours Saturday, according to MyPanhandle.com.

Nighttime operations at the airport will continue once the curfew currently in place in Bay County is lifted. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines returned to the airport Saturday, and Southwest Airlines restarted service Sunday.

The airlines serving the Florida airport have also extended travel waivers for the facility.

For American and United passengers who purchased their ticket to Panama City by October 13, the airlines are waiving change fees for those scheduled to fly through October 17. Delta is waiving the change fees for travel to the impacted airport through October 15.

Southwest’s travel advisory applies to both Northwest Florida Beaches International and Pensacola International airports and allows customers to rebook travel through October 21. The carrier is also allowing travelers who booked flights to Panama City to change their destination to Pensacola.
