Delta Air Lines to Soon Offer Free In-Flight Wi-Fi

Delta Air Lines announced Friday it plans to add free in-flight Wi-Fi to its fleet of airplanes in the near future.

According to WCPO.com, Delta CEO Ed Bastian said during the Skift Global Forum last week that the airline wants to offer its passengers the chance to enjoy Wi-Fi without having to pay extra to use the service.

While Bastian offered no timetable for the changes, he said the shift to free connectivity would happen soon. When Delta eventually unveils its free Wi-Fi, it will join JetBlue as one of the only carriers in the United States to offer the service.

Delta currently charges passengers $16 for a full day of in-flight Wi-Fi.

“I don’t know of anywhere else, besides in an airplane, that you can’t get free Wi-Fi,” Bastian said during the conference. “We’re going to make it free.”

Other carriers that offer in-flight Wi-Fi charge for the service, including American Airlines, which offers the wireless internet at $12 for two hours, $17 for four hours and $19 for an entire flight.

Spirit Airlines do not currently offer in-flight Wi-Fi. Spirit announced plans to offer the service by the summer of 2019.
