Delta Launches New Route to Edinburgh, Extends NYC Service

Scotland is at the top of many Americans’ bucket lists and Delta Air Lines just made it easier to experience the European hotspot.

The carrier recently celebrated its inaugural flight between Edinburgh and Boston and announced its existing service between New York City and the Scottish capital via JFK Airport will be extended year-round.

The new daily flight to Boston’s Logan International Airport will operate through the summer season, complementing Delta‘s existing New York JFK service. The announcement means that Delta and joint venture partner Virgin Atlantic will offer two nonstop connections between Edinburgh and the U.S. every day this summer.

Delta and Edinburgh Airport celebrated the increased connectivity during a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Scotland.

“Delta’s new flight is the only nonstop link between Edinburgh and Boston. Having seen a steady growth of customers on our New York service over the past three years, we are confident that Boston will be another popular destination providing more choice to our customers in Scotland and the United States. From our Boston hub, customers can connect onto 17 destinations with a short layover,” said Roberto Ioriatti, Delta’s vice president Transatlantic, in a statement.

“The U.S. market continues to perform strongly for Scotland and remains the single biggest inbound market. Despite Brexit uncertainties, U.S. operators tell us that consumer confidence in Scotland is high, driven by our stunning landscapes and rich history and heritage,” said VisitScotland Chief Executive Malcolm Roughead in a statement.

“This new route from Boston to Edinburgh expands Delta’s existing New York service to the Scottish capital. This will provide Scottish tourism businesses with an opportunity to reach and encourage more U.S. travelers and operators to choose Scotland as their next must-see destination.”
