According to FOX12 Oregon, Compass Airlines Flight 6054 was flying from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport when the actions of 21-year-old Douglas B. Smyser caused the pilot to divert the plane to Portland International Airport.

Smyser told police he ingested methamphetamine before takeoff since he was scheduled to check into rehab in Malibu after landing in California. Soon after boarding, he threw his backpack into the aisle and it began vibrating due to an electric razor inside.

In addition, witnesses claim Smyser started pacing the aisle and wouldn’t sit down when asked. Eventually, he claimed someone in the back of the plane had a gun and walked toward the cockpit but was restrained by another passenger.

The captain locked the cockpit door and called for the emergency landing in Portland, where police and FBI agents met the plane and arrested Smyser on charges of menacing, disorderly conduct and interference with a flight crew.
