JetBlue announced Thursday that bookings are open for its new domestic first-class service. BlueFirst is available on more than 30 routes.

BlueFirst will be available on domestic routes that do not offer JetBlue’s lie-flat Mint business class. The launch forms part of JetBlue’s broader effort to overhaul its fare structure.

The new fare structure will include a basic option without perks such as seat assignments, a standard option, and a “flex” option that allows refunds and easier changes.

JetBlue hopes to attract more customers seeking spacious, premium seating as the carrier works to return to profitability.

BlueFirst’s First Flights

Passengers can book introductory BlueFirst fares on select flights. Introductory fares start at $299 on flights from Boston to Fort Lauderdale and $249 on flights from New York to Fort Lauderdale. The airline is also offering fares of $299 on flights from New York to Liberia, Costa Rica.

JetBlue says BlueFirst seats recline up to 5 inches and provide 7 inches more legroom than its Main seats. Passengers will also have access to Bluetooth-enabled seatback screens, food and beverages, Group 1 boarding, and expedited security screening.

Three BlueFirst Fare Tiers

BlueFirst offers three fare tiers, starting with the lower-priced BlueFirst Base option. It includes one checked bag, priority check-in and security screening, and Group 1 boarding. Passengers can also select their seats for free starting 24 hours before departure. However, change and cancellation fees apply.

The second tier, BlueFirst, includes two checked bags, free seat selection, and no change or cancellation fees. The highest tier, BlueFirst Flex, includes the same benefits as BlueFirst, plus refunds for cancellations made before departure and fee-free same-day changes or standby.

In a press release, JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty said, “We designed BlueFirst to deliver a more accessible first-class experience that combines the thoughtful hospitality and service customers expect from JetBlue with exceptional value and comfort. We’re excited that customers can now start making BlueFirst part of their travel plans.”
