Northeast Deals with Aftermath of Wednesday’s Storm

After Winter Storm Toby caused more than 4,400 flight cancellations Wednesday, travelers were still dealing with the aftermath Thursday from the fourth nor’easter to hit the Northeast United States this month.

According to FlightAware.com as of 10:20 a.m. ET, more than 600 additional flights were canceled Thursday at impacted airports, including New York City’s John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia, Boston’s Logan International, New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International and Philadelphia International.

There are also more than 200 flights delayed Thursday due to Winter Storm Toby’s aftermath.

In total, more than 10,000 flights in the Northeast were canceled in March due to the series of nor’easter storms that brought snow, freezing rain, high winds and flooding to the region.

Amtrak also announced it will continue operating on a modified schedule Thursday. While several Northeast Regional services have been canceled, other key routes like Acela Express Service, Keystone Service, and Carolinian Service will run, but only to select destinations.

The rail company is asking travelers to call ahead to ensure their train is on schedule.

Travelers hitting the road over the last 48 hours were also dealing with rough conditions, as hundreds of car crashes were reported in the Northeast. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo even reportedly stopped to help assist victims in a car accident he saw while driving.
