Pickup Trucks Smashes into Plane at Baltimore Airport

The hits just keep coming for Southwest.

A pickup truck smashed into a Southwest Airlines Monday morning while it was driving across the tarmac at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

According to NBC Washington, the Southwest flight had just landed at the Baltimore airport following a flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida at 12:46 a.m. local time.

The plane was moving from the runway to the gate when it collided with a white pickup truck, ripping the front bumper off the vehicle and leaving the front heavily damaged. There were 172 passengers on the Southwest flight when the incident occurred, but no injuries were reported.

The condition of the truck driver was not immediately released. A formal investigation into the accident is underway. The official Twitter account of Southwest Airlines released a statement online:

“We’re so sorry for the trouble tonight in Baltimore. We appreciate your patience, and our Team will do everything they can to get you all on your way as soon as possible.”

Monday’s accident is the latest in a string of recent issues for Southwest. Last month, an engine exploded on Southwest Flight 1380 that left a female passenger dead. The airline also had to make an emergency landing for a broken cabin window last week.
