Southwest Flight Makes Emergency Landing Due to Broken Window

A Southwest Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing Wednesday in Cleveland after one of the windows in the plane cracked.

According to Reuters.com, officials from the Federal Aviation Administration revealed Southwest Flight 957 was traveling to Newark Liberty International Airport from Chicago Midway International Airport with 76 passengers onboard.

Members of the flight crew were informed that one of the multiple panes of a window had broken, which caused pilots to call for an emergency landing at Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport at around 11 a.m. local time.

While no cause for the broken window has been revealed, the incident comes just two weeks after an engine explosion on another Southwest flight shattered a window and left a female passenger dead.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported on Southwest Flight 957, according to FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro. Officials also announced the plane had been taken out of service for maintenance review.

“The Safety of our Customers and Employees is our number one focus each and every day,” Southwest said in a statement. “We also thank the Pilots and Flight Attendants onboard the flight and the Southwest Team in Cleveland for their professionalism and handling of today’s event.”

Since the death of a passenger, Southwest has been conducting ultrasonic inspections on fan blades of engines similar to the one that exploded in April. The testing has caused minor delays and several cancellations over the last two weeks.
