Spirit Airlines announced Tuesday it would launch nonstop daily service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Baltimore/Washington, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, New Orleans and Orlando.
Starting on May 2, the new routes from North Carolina will also create dozens of connections to other destinations in the United States, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America.

The additional flights at Raleigh-Durham airport complement existing service to the Piedmont Triad and Asheville airports, making it Spirit’s third destination in the Tar Heel State.
“We are excited to bring our low fares and reliable, on-time service to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport just in time for summer travel season,” Spirit senior vice president Matt Klein said in a statement. “From families looking to get away, to the college community in need of a study break, Spirit’s eight daily flights from the Research Triangle will allow our guests to get to some of the largest destinations in Spirit’s network, including those in the Caribbean and Latin America.”
“We are happy to welcome Spirit Airlines, the newest airline to join RDU and the Research Triangle community,” Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority CEO Michael Landguth said. “Spirit offers area travelers another option when they fly for both business and leisure.”
In addition to the new Raleigh-Durham service, Spirit is also rolling out two additional routes around the same time. On May 2, the low cost-carrier will begin daily nonstop seasonal service between Atlanta and Denver.
The airline will also add daily nonstop service between Philadelphia and San Juan, Puerto Rico, on May 23.
The latest announcements come after Spirit revealed it would add service to Austin and Indianapolis in early 2019. The carrier is also adding more nonstop flights from Jacksonville, Myrtle Beach, New Orleans and San Juan.
