Violent Passenger Attempts to Smash Window and Open Cabin Door Prior to Landing

A passenger who became violent on a recent domestic Fuzhou Airlines flight had to be restrained by security staff and cabin crew before being handed over to police. According to an eyewitness account, the unnamed male passenger had been acting strangely upon boarding the flight and became violent.

A passenger on a domestic Chinese flight had to be restrained after he attempted to open a cabin door while the plane was mid-air, The Daily Mail reports. The incident occurred on Monday onboard Fuzhou Airlines Flight 6509, which departed from Fuzhou and just as the plane was preparing to land in the southern Chinese city of Kunming.

The outlet reports that the man, who is said to have been about 50-years-old, was observed by crew members and security staff on the flight to have been acting strangely upon boarding.

Zhao Wenhui, who was a security officer on the flight, noted that the passenger was wearing bloodstained clothing and seemed to have trouble focusing.

Zhao observed the passenger throughout the flight, during the course of which he became upset and eventually lashed out physically.

The outlet reports that around 40 minutes before landing in Kunming, the man requested that members of the flight’s crew allow him to call his loved ones. He was informed that this was not possible. The man then began to pace the cabin and questioned the safety of the plane.

The crew then sat the man next to the security officer, but approximately ten minutes prior to landing in Kunming, the passenger then attempted to open the cabin door.

The man was hauled back to his seat but began to stomp on the floor. It is also reported that he repeatedly hit a window and a seat with his cell.

As a consequence, the passenger, who was described in a statement as being mentally ill, had to be restrained. The flight landed safely and the man was taken into police custody.
