Which Airlines are Adding Fees?

For travelers who take to the sky often, it was revealed that several airlines will be adding fees in the coming months that could make your next flight more expensive.

According to reports from USA Today and the Points Guy, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines all have plans in place to add fees for seat selection, early check-in, checked bags and more.

Travelers who prefer to fly with United will begin to notice later this year that they are being charged extra if they reserve seats near the front of the plane. While the pricier preferred seats provide no additional room or amenities, those passengers are among the first to deplane.

Southwest customers who enjoy the airline’s EarlyBird Check-In will also likely be paying more come August 29 when the changes are formally announced. The check-in option used to be a $15 flat rate, but will now be a variable rate from $15-$25 based on flight length and popularity.

As for passengers flying with JetBlue, an email sent to employees shows the airline plans to increase fees for checked items, pet transport, flight changes and cancellations. While the changes haven’t been added to the carrier’s website, the Points Guy reports the increases will be rolled out over the next several weeks.
