Who’s Targeting BA Pilots With Lasers?

The FAA has confirmed that a British Airways flight inbound to IAD from London was involved in a laser strike incident on Saturday. The crew of the flight reported spotting a laser at an elevation of 5,000 feet but landed safely despite the incident. The FAA has confirmed that it is investigating.

The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that it is investigating an incident in which the cockpit crew of a British Airways flight was apparently targeted with a green laser as the plane descended into Dulles International Airport (IAD) last weekend, Fox News reports. The incident occurred on Saturday and involved British Airways Flight 293, which was inbound from London.

According to WJAL, the flight’s crew spotted the laser as the plane was at an elevation of around 5,000 feet.

Despite the incident, the flight landed safely at IAD. The outlet also reports that an air traffic controller alerted all inbound flights to the laser attack.

In a statement quoted by Fox, the administration said, “British Airways Flight 293 reported that a green laser illuminated the Boeing 747 aircraft as it headed to Dulles International Airport about 9:55 p.m. on Saturday, May 25. The flight landed safely and no injuries were reported.”

The incident comes just a few weeks after laser strikes were reported by flights near Orlando and Los Angeles, respectively.
