Amtrak Announces National Sale for Senior Citizens

Amtrak announced Tuesday it would be offering passengers 65 and older an additional 10 percent off their standard 10-percent discount fare through Thursday.

The three-day sale will be applicable for travel from May 1 to June 27 with no blackout dates, and the sale runs exclusively on Amtrak.com for booking until April 19.

The sale comes just in time for rail travelers to visit their favorite destinations prior to the summer rush. Some of the cities customers can experience via Amtrak include:

Pairing Cities Price Pairing Cities Price
Chicago – St. Louis $21.39 Philadelphia – Boston $80.79
Minneapolis – Chicago $55.44 Washington, D.C. – Savannah $89.50
New York City – Washington, D.C. $73.66 Portland – Los Angeles $95.04

Senior Amtrak customers will be able to sit in comfort and avoid the additional costs of driving, parking, tolls and gas. Passengers will also be able to enjoy spacious seats, ample legroom, the freedom to move around, Wi-Fi on most train services and a generous baggage policy.

To take advantage of the deal, seniors must use the promo code “V701” and select the passenger type “E” when purchasing. They will need to show proof of age for the discount and onboard the train, and one child between ages 2-12 may accompany each adult at half the typical adult fee.

Advance reservations are required with a minimum of 14 days prior to travel, including unreserved service. The National Spring Sale is valid only for coach seats, with upgrades to business class or sleeper upgrades not included.
