Broadway Star Named Godmother of Crystal Debussy

Crystal River Cruises has named Broadway singer and actor Rachel York as the godmother of its newest luxury river ship.

The Crystal Debussy will be christened on May 28 at the Port of Amsterdam.

York performs as part of the “Crystal on Broadway” program, which brings performers and producers from the biggest shows to Crystal’s theaters and lounges for special performances and presentations. She will next perform during the Crystal Mahler’s May 28 cruise out of Amsterdam to Budapest.

York’s latest project on Broadway is “Head Over Heels,” a new musical comedy produced by Gwyneth Paltrow, Jordan Roth, and others, featuring the hits of the Go-Go’s. Her portfolio also includes critically acclaimed Broadway turns in “City of Angels,” “Victor/Victoria” with Crystal Serenity godmother Dame Julie Andrews and most recently, “Disaster! The Musical.” Onscreen, she is best known for her starring role in the Lucille Ball biopic “Lucy.”

“It has been a privilege to be part of the Crystal Family through the Crystal on Broadway program and I am honored to be the Godmother of Crystal Debussy,” York said. “To fulfill such an enduring tradition and represent a ship of such style and elegance – as well as a crew dedicated to superb service and experiences day in and day out – is truly my pleasure.”

Sailing itineraries between Amsterdam and Basel, the 106-guest Crystal Debussy embarked on her maiden voyage on the Rhine River April 9. Throughout 2018 and 2019, the ship will sail seven- and 10-day itineraries between Amsterdam and Basel on the Rhine and Moselle rivers, visiting Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium.

Crystal’s new river vessels are all-balcony, all-suite, all-butler vessels in Europe, with every suite category above the waterline. The suites offer king-size beds, panoramic balcony-windows, walk-in closets and dual vanity in the bathrooms in most categories, as well as Etro amenities, robes and slippers, and wall-mounted flat-screen HD TVs. Dining includes farm-to-table cuisine in multiple, open-seating eateries: the elegant Waterside Restaurant, namesake Bistro cafés and the exclusive Vintage Room.
